South Carolina home inspector license
The Residential Builders Commission licenses home inspectors in South Carolina, and no one may hold out as a home inspector without a license.

- Who licenses
- The South Carolina Residential Builders Commission, within the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
- Who must be licensed
- Anyone who holds out as a home inspector.
- By examination
- One year of supervised experience as a home inspector, or a formal course of training the commission approves. Pass the commission's examination with a score of 70 or better.
- National exam
- Licensure by the National Home Inspector Examination, its Business Management and Law portion, after approved experience and education.
- Without examination
- A building or home inspector certified or licensed after a written examination by an approved organization may be licensed with one year of supervised experience as a home inspector, or with fifty residential inspections.
- Out-of-state applicants
- Endorsement, without a technical exam, for a home inspector licensed by examination in another state. The license must be a state-issued license. Grandfathered licenses, course exams and registrations do not qualify.
- Renewal
- Renew before July 1 each year for one year. A late renewal carries a late fee. An inactive status is available.
