# Utah home inspector license

Utah's Division of Professional Licensing requires private home inspectors to hold a current certification from one of three national bodies and $500,000 each of liability and errors and omissions insurance.

<dt>Who licenses</dt>
<dd>The Division of Professional Licensing, under Utah Code 58-56-9.</dd>

<dt>Classes</dt>
<dd>Combination, limited, and private home inspector. This page covers the private home inspector.</dd>

<dt>Certification</dt>
<dd>As of June 30, 2026, one or more current certifications from the American Society of Home Inspectors, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, or the International Code Council's Residential Combination Inspector.</dd>

<dt>Insurance</dt>
<dd>Liability insurance of $500,000 and errors and omissions insurance of $500,000, each naming the Division as certificate holder.</dd>

<dt>Application</dt>
<dd>Submit the application in the form the Division prescribes, and pay the fee. The Division makes the Private Home Inspector application available from May 1, 2026.</dd>

<dt>Renewal</dt>
<dd>Every two years.</dd></dl>
